INEC trains 42,000 poll agents

Ahead of the October 20 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conjunction with the International Republican Institute (IRI) yesterday held one-day training for over 42,000 agents representing 13 political parties at the polling units.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Akin Orebiyi, who spoke with reporters after the training in Akure, said it was held to ensure a successful poll.
He described the agents as key functionaries just as the electoral officers, election monitors and security officers.
Orebiyi noted that the workshop would allow the agents to know their duties.
He said INEC organised the training to know the agents’ level of understanding concerning their responsibilities.
