Police quizzed Ondo Commissioner Over Assault

The Ondo State Commissioner for Natural Resources Alhaji Oluboyo Lateef was recently quizzed by officials of State Police Command following the allegation leveled against him, by a chieftain of Labour Party [LP], Ajisafe Adetute.

Adetute accused the commissioner and four others that they pour an acide on him in his shop in Akure, the State Capital few weeks ago.

The victim, popularly known as“Pistol” is a former chairman of the state Forest Monitoring Unit.

Ajisafe in a petition sent to the State Police Commissioner through his lawyer accused the Commissioner as the sponsor of his attack.

He said the Commissioner threatened to deal with him few days before his attack following the petition he (Ajisafe) earlier sent to the state governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko over the alleged atrocities being perpetrated by the Commissioner and some officials of his ministry at the detriment of the state government

The state police spokesman Mr. Wole Egodo in an exclusive interview with the Nation at the weekend, said the commissioner and four other suspects were quizzed by men of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ascertain their alleged role in the matter

Egodo said the police specifically invited the commissioner to established whether or not he actually called and threatened the victim on phone as alleged few days before the incident happened

Sources at the state police command said the commissioner dressed in white flowing Agbada was interrogated and detained till the following morning before he was granted bail with other suspects

The sources said one of the suspects (name withheld) who hails from the victims hometown (Ode-Irele) may have no case to answer as their was no substantive evidence to prove his involvement in the matter

The police spokesman said further that it was the duty of the police to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry and ensure that justice prevails in the matter irrespective of the personalities involved.

“The matter has been transferred from Ala police station to the state CID and it is true that the Commissioner for Natural resources Alhaji Oluboyo Lateef and other suspects have been invited and quizzed by the police, but I don’t know whether the commissioner was detained or not. The case is a very sensitive matter and that is why the Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case. All the suspects are still under interrogation and we shall not relent in our efforts to get to the root of the matter.” Egodo assured

The police spokesman said the suspects including the commissioner would appear in court as soon as investigations into the matter are concluded

Meanwhile, the commissioner at a recent press briefing in Akure, denied ever sponsoring the attack of the victim and promised to assist the police at ensuring that the evil doers are arrested
