Super Eagles Defender, Oboabona presents his retired gardner's father new 2008 camry car

The just concluded 2013 AFCON Competition in South Africa will ever remained a period of testimony for family members of Super Eagles’ Defender, Godfrey Oboabona.

It is now an every day’s party in the retented apartment of his father, Mr. Jonathan Oboabona in the ancient town of Ondo kingdom as members of the community always beseiged the compound to congratule the family.

Oboabona, the last child of the seven children of his parents was among the players who led the Nigerian national team to her third Nation’s Cup trophy.

Obobona, an Home based player of Sunshine Stars, recently surprised his father, a retired gardener of Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo kingdom, Ondo State with a new 2008 Toyota Camry Car.

The Super Eagles’ Star, who is an Edo State indigene but grew up in Ondo town has always involved into supporting activities, particularly football during his primary and seconday days.

However, when lekebiz324’s world visited the family today, his elder brother, David Oboabona said Godfrey grew up in a family of five boys and two girls.

He said, “he had been playing football since his primary school’s days. When he was in primary two at Adeyemi Demonstration’s Primary, Oboabona was the school captain and also when he got to St. James Secondary at JSS 2, Oboabona was the skipper of that team.

“He was later invited for a trial at OSOPADEC Football Academy where he was picked to join the Ondo State Rising Stars team and from their he joined the Sunshine team.


“He has always been a great player, he had the passion for the round leather game and through this he had been receiving blessing from God. Another thing is that, we got a support from our parents, particulalry our father.  We grew up in Adeyemi College and my father has never stopped us from playing football. Sometimes, while playing football, we mistakely damaged some widows, but my father would still go ahead to pay for the damage.

“He is not the only member of the family who is into sports. I have a brother, Daniel Oboabona who plays Volleyball for this country, but you know the love of people for football, through this Godfrey has made up proud.

“By special grace of God, we want him to play in Europe. We will continue to be grateful to govenrment of Ondo State and Coach Stephen Keshi who discovered the talent in our brother.

Also, his father, Jonathan Obobona who spoke with lekebiz324’s world said he was so happy that his son was among the players who won the third nation’s cup trophy for the country.

“I was so excited that Godfrey was picked among the 23-man squad because I believe such oppurtnity will make his future bright in sports.

“I am aiming higher for him. I want him to play in Europe, particularly England. He has always been a good boy to the family, he knows that we are suffering and he had always been there for this family”. Obobona’s father said

He thanked the primary and secondary schools which Godfrey attended, Coach Stephen Keshi and government of Ondo State.
