Ondo may sack 6,000 illegal teachers




Indication has emerged that no fewer than 6,000 public primary school Teachers in Ondo State may lose their job.

Those  likely to be affected are teachers employed through the back door particularly between 2009 and 2013.
 
The teachers according   to sources at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUEB) were employed by some officials of the board and out gone Area Education Secretary (AES) without any formal approval from the state governor
 
Already 13 Area Education Accountants, ten Treasurers and Auditors have been issued queries over the matter.
 
The indicted officials,it was learnt have been redeployed to office of the Accountant-General and local Government Auditor-General to face panel for their alleged involvement in the deal
 
Sources said“All the indicted Area Education Accountants, Treasurers and Auditors have been issued queries and transferred back to the Accountant General and Auditor-General’s Offices where they will face panel to put up their defences. 

''Already, they have been replaced by new officials in all the affected Area offices”. 
 
However, it was learnt  that  teachers were illegal recruited by some of the out gone Area Education Secretaries and their predecessors in connivance with the indicted SPEB officials with the aim of defrauding the state government.
 
Investigations revealed that the illegal deal has jacked up the salary wage  bill of primary school teachers in the state by 61.79 per cent causing government to spend more on teachers’ salary
 
Sources said further that most of the people recruited did not have the required educational qualification but got hold of the opportunity because of the influence of their god fathers

 
There are indications that some of the former AES may be invited to face panel along with the indicted officials over the matter
 
The state governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has ordered that immediate screening of all public primary school Teachers in the state
 
The exercise which has commenced in all thE 18 local government  areas in the state according to the governor, is not to witch hunt any body but to sanitize the state workforce.
