Why Maigari was arrested —Sports Ministry

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has given the reason for the arrest of former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari and some other officials last week by men of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS).
The arrest of Maigari and some other officials of the NFF by the DSS was part of its routine to investigate the fire that gutted the Glass House secretariat of the NFF recently and interrogate some suspects based on the report of officials of the NFF, according to a release made available to Tribunesport.

The press release was signed by Patrick Omorodion, Special Assistant (Media) to the Sports Minister/Chairman, National Sports Commission.
It further said that the NSC is not unaware of the crisis bedevilling football administration in Nigeria and assured all football stakeholders that the sports minister is doing everything to ensure that peace returns to the NFF.
The release quoted Sports Minister Dr Tamuno Danagogo as saying that the NSC is still studying the situation and “at the appropriate time we will say something about it in order for our football to move forward.”
Alhaji Maigari, it will be recalled, was picked up by men of the DSS in Abuja shortly before the Congress of the NFF, fuelling the insinuation in some quarters that he was arrested to prevent him from presiding over the Congress.
Former acting President of the NFF, Chief Mike Umeh had, immediately after the fire outbreak which raised part of the NFF secretariat in Abuja, said he suspected sabotage by “some people who are desperate to perpetuate themselves in power and called on the police to investigate the incident.”
