Edo Tribunal to deliver Judgement on Wednesday

The Election Petitions Tribunal in Edo State will on Wednesday deliver judgment in a petition brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the July 14, 2012 governorship poll in the state, Charles Airhiavbere, against Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s victory. The tribunal in a message said, “Note that judgment in EPT/ED/01/2012 comes up on January 23 by 9am.” Airhiavbere, aside from challenging Oshiomhole’s academic qualification to contest the election, also contended that the latter’s victory was not in compliance with the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended.) Meanwhile, Edo PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Mathew Uroghide, has said the party will participate in the forthcoming local government poll in the state. Urhoghide said this on the heels of a statement credited to the party’s Director of Publicity and Strategy, Ekhiaredia Ihimekpen, calling on political parties in the state to boycott the April 20 council poll. Urhoghide said, “Rising from an enlarged meeting of the state leadership of the party, Edo PDP resolved to fully participate in the local government election and this formally and officially informs its members and all Edo people of that decision. “This is also against the displeasure expressed over the action of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, which failed to formally invite our party to the stakeholders meeting where modalities for the election were outlined.” Source from Punch
