Oyo NURTW deputy chairman killed

Some unidentified gunmen have killed the Oyo state Deputy Chairman of Nigeria’s National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Kamorudeen Beyioku. He was shot in Ibadan today and died at the University College Hospital (UCH), where he was rushed after the incident. Sources said the medical team of the hospital at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) tried vainly to save the man. The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayodele Lanade said he has not been properly briefed. Beyioku was among the newly constituted executive of the union in the state sworn in 21 December last year, after several years of internal crisis in the union, that led to premature termination of the union’s executive led by Alhaji Lateef Akinsola alias Tokyo. Tokyo is still in court challenging the legality of the new executive of the union. The state executive members comprise of Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, aka Fele (Chairman); Comrade Akin James (State Secretary); Elder Lekan Aleshinloye (Assistant Secretary); Alhaji Kamorudeen Beyioku (Deputy Chairman); Alhaji Abideen Olajide (Vice Chairman); Alhaji Ademola Adeoye (State Treasurer); Elder Joseph Odeyemi (Assistant Treasurer); Alhaji Musa Adeleke (Financial Secretary); Alhaji Abass Adigun (State Auditor) and Alhaji Kasali Lawal (Assistant Auditor).
