Police minister asks candidates to accept results

The Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, has urged governorship candidates in Saturday’s election to accept the result of the election and shun violence in the interest of the state.

Adesiyan said this in an interview with journalists at Ode Omu, his hometown where he cast his vote.
The minister said he was impressed with the turnout and the peaceful conduct of the exercise in his home town.

According to him, the peaceful conduct of the poll has vindicated him because he has been tagged a violent person.

He said, “In Ode Omu, the election went peacefully and nobody was intimidated. Members of the ruling party and those in the opposition behaved very well like true sons and daughters of Ode Omu.

“Whatever happens, everybody should accept the result. It might be keen but I know that Senator Iyiola Omisore will win by the grace of God.

However, if you lose today, you may win tomorrow; election would not be a do-or-die-affair.
“If you want to serve the people and they don’t want you, then you should accept defeat. So I expect all the contestants to accept the outcome of the poll and move on.”

Commenting on the alleged arrest of some APC leaders, the minister said those arrested must have done things to warrant that.

He said some persons imported into the state were found inside uncompleted buildings, saying it would be wrong if security agents left such people unchallenged.

The Commissioner for Information in Osun State, Mr. Sunday Akere, said the conduct of the election was satisfactory as at the time of accreditation.

Akere, however, condemned the alleged arrest of some APC leaders saying they were aimed at putting members of the ruling party in disarray to the advantage of the PDP.

But he expressed optimism that Governor Rauf Aregbesola would win the election.
